Veg Gardening in the Pacific Northwest
I have been an avid gardner for half a century. I guess I still have a thing or two to learn.
I have maintained vegetable gardens in the San Francisco Bay area, in New Jersey, and in the Seattle area. Each climate presents its own challenges. Vegetables that were easy to grow in the hot summers (tomatoes, sweet potatoes, peppers) of New Jersey are now a major challenge in the Pacific Northwest. But vegetables that were diseased, bug-ridden and miserable looking in the hot NJ summers (potatoes and cabbage, for example) love it here. Better still, the mild winters of the Puget Sound area allow vegetables to be harvested 12 months of the year.
