Greenhouse

What do you do with a 10' x 20' concrete slab remaining from a fallen-down chicken house? I built a greenhouse, on my own design, using 3'x8' pieces of used tempered glass from a salvage store. Vents at either end are controlled by solar-powered automatic vent openers.
The greenhouse is unheated, but a thermostated electric 150W heater sits below a 3' x 8' table, for starting seeds in early spring.

I start seeds in commercial potting soil - usually one of the cheapest brands. It is necessary to shop around, however. Some brands are so poorly composted and screened that they contain chunks of wood the size of your thumb. Others add so much charcoal (because the naive think that good soil is black) that your hands, face, and clothing will look like you were rescued from a burning building.
Seeds are started in plastic inserts in standard 1020 (10-1/2" x 20-7/8") plastic trays.
Seedlings get moved from small insert cells into larger 4"x4" plastic pots. At this stage a lot of labels are required. Commercial plastic labels are a little pricey. I cut up used plastic milk bottles into 1/4" x 5" strips (with a sturdy pair of scissors). Write on these with felt tip markers, or, if you really want to be slick, buy self-adhesive waterproof labels for a computer laser printer.
